February Lesson Plans

Composer:  Mozart

Artist:  Charles M. Russell

Poetry:  A Child's Introduction to Poetry

HistoryWe are in the time period between the Louisiana Purchase and the Civil War.  There is a ton of good stuff to learn about!  The War of 1812, the Alamo, the Erie Canal, Mark Twain and the steamboats, pioneers and the Oregon Trail, the coming of the railroads...  I don't think I can teach it all between now and April, so we are just picking and choosing what sounds interesting!  Colton is reading Abraham Lincoln's World, so he is getting the big picture of that time period, but I have him dig a little deeper into the people of the West.  People like Kit Carson, Davy Crockett, Mark Twain, Pres. Andrew Jackson..  really just whoever sounds interesting to him at the time.

The girls will finish Cowboy Charlie and then concentrate on pioneers using Download N Go's Prairie Pioneers.  I also want to spend a week (or two) in Laura Ingalls Wilder's World using By the Shores of Silver Lake.

We are also memorizing the Presidents.

Science: (Colton) The Human Respiratory and Circulatory Systems

Geography: memorizing those states and capitals!!

Missionary: William and Catherine Booth
